The musical theatre reached its height in the mid ’50s with the arrival of My Fair Lady. With partner Frederick Loewe, Alan Jay Lerner set the standard for the great American musical. Not just a writer of witty songs, Lerner was, like Oscar Hammerstein, the complete “playwright-lyricist” for whom a song was an integral part of the plot. With songs from My Fair Lady, Camelot, Brigadoon, Gigi, On A Clear Day and more, this evening of Lerner lyrics will also feature some of the songs that may have slipped under the radar including “Dance A Little Closer” which lasted only one night on Broadway. Joining Bobby in this glittering evening will be two lobby veterans; the gorgeous soprano voice of Susan Powell, last year’s star of Kiss Me Kate, and Danny Weathers, artistic director of the Waterfront Playhouse and star of all seven seasons of Bobby in the Lobby.
